Jesus Christ is God the Son. Jesus Christ is the Jewish Messiah. Jesus Christ is the King of Israel. Jesus Christ is the Lord of Lords. Jesus Christ is Master of all. Jesus Christ is the Alpha and Omega. Jesus Christ is the great I AM.
If He is Lord; if He is Master; where is our respect due Him?
What does Lord mean? I checked with a Merriam-Webster dictionary.
It says: someone or something having power, authority, or influence; a master or ruler.
In the European middle ages, a serf or servant would actually kneel and bow before their Lord.
Here in the United States, that is an action definitely NOT on anyone’s to-do-list. For someone at that time to come before their Lord, demanded obeisance, it demanded loyalty, it demanded homage, it demanded genuflection, bowing, curtsy; a visual action implying the person was giving all honor and respect to their Lord.
Is that how today’s Christians think of their Savior?
Is that how believers think of Jesus Christ, as their Lord and Master?
Our Sunday morning church service is called a Worship service.
What does worship mean? I looked it up in a Merriam-Webster dictionary.
It says: to honor or reverence as a divine being or supernatural power.
What kind of honor, what kind of reverence do believers give to Jesus?
Honor and reverence must come from a person’s heart, not his head (mind).
Think back to this last Sunday. Think back to the Sundays in the previous month?
Did you actually worship the Lord?
Did you actually give honor and respect to Christ Jesus?
Or was your attendance from habit or routine?
Was your heart bowed in subservience to Jesus?
Were you mentally on your knees before Christ the Creator?
If not, how can you honestly call Him Lord and Master?
What were you doing in the church service?
Were you there only with your mind?
Or is your heart actively involved in your worship? Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding (mind). Prov. 3:5. If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Rom. 10:9.
Notice, our heart MUST be active in bowing before Jesus. If we are Christians by using only our mind (head), then that raises the question, how serious of a believer are we?
If our Christianity is with our head (thoughts), that raises another question, where is our heart, what is it doing when we say Jesus is Lord?
As I read my Bible, God wants our full and complete submission.
If He doesn’t have our full surrender, that means we keep ‘self’ on the throne of our heart.
If Christ is not on our heart’s throne, how can we honestly call Him Lord and Master?
How can we truly worship Him?
How can we surrender to someone who does not sit on the throne of our heart?
The answer is: we can’t.
So what do we do about this?
That is a question that each of us must answer for ourselves. Talk to God about this, and see how He wants to work within your heart.
